How it works

1. Choose your button design

Open Settings Preferred Source and select your preferred design. You can use the official Google button or choose from 40+ unique custom styles. A live preview (Desktop / Mobile) lets you see the button before displaying it on your website.

2. Customize your button

Personalize the button to fit your website:

  • Button name/text — For example, “Add as preferred on Google”
  • Site name — Add your website or publication name
  • Supporting text — Optionally add a short explanation above or below the button (always, on hover, or info icon)

For custom designs, you can also adjust colors, borders, backgrounds, font size, corner radius, Google icon visibility, and other design settings. With Mobile and desktop, you can set different copy and supporting-text triggers for each device.

3. Choose where it appears

Display the button automatically:

  • At the top of an article
  • In the middle of an article (after a chosen paragraph)
  • At the end of an article
  • Below the post meta
  • Above or below the table of contents
  • In the sidebar (below Share this article, or at the end)
  • Below the featured image or after the first heading
  • Above comments
  • As a floating button that stays visible while scrolling

You can enable more than one placement at the same time. TOC, sidebar, and post-meta spots are found automatically — no CSS selector required.

4. Control who sees it

Choose where automatic placement should be enabled, including posts, pages, homepage/blog, categories, tags, search results, author pages, archives, and supported custom content types.

You can also control visibility by device and exclude specific posts, pages, or categories. For complete manual control, use the shortcode, block, or widget.

5. Save and publish

Save your settings and the Preferred Source button is ready to appear according to your selected display rules. When readers click the button, they can proceed to Google and select your website as a Preferred Source.

Why use KudoMetrics Preferred Source Button for Google?

Google Preferred Sources gives users a way to choose publications and websites they want to see more prominently in eligible Google experiences.

This plugin gives WordPress site owners a simple way to make that option visible to their readers without manually building and managing the integration.

Whether you want Google’s official design, a button that matches your site’s branding, a floating call-to-action, or a manually placed button inside an article, you can configure it from WordPress.

Before you start

Only domain-level and subdomain-level sites that already appear in Google’s source preferences tool are eligible to be selected as a preferred source. This plugin creates the link that makes it easy for eligible sites to invite readers to add them — it does not register your site with Google or affect your eligibility.

Custom button styles include an original multicolor G icon to show that the click goes to Google; that icon is plugin artwork, not a Google trademark file. The optional official interactive button loads Google’s own script from news.google.com and is subject to Google’s terms.

External services

This plugin can load Google’s Subscribe with Google publisher script when you enable the official interactive Google button on the Design tab.

The script is loaded from https://news.google.com/swg/js/v1/publisher.js on pages where that button is shown. It renders Google’s official Preferred Sources button in the visitor’s browser. The plugin does not send your WordPress site data to Google through this script; Google’s script may collect usage data according to Google’s policies when it runs in the visitor’s browser.

This service is provided by Google LLC: Terms of Service, Privacy Policy.

Custom button styles link to https://www.google.com/preferences/source (or your configured domain) so visitors can open Google’s Preferred Sources page. Those links are opened in the visitor’s browser only when they click the button; no server-side request is made by the plugin to Google for custom styles.

प्रश्नोत्तर

What is a Google Preferred Source?

Preferred Sources is a Google Search feature that allows users to select websites and publications they want to see more content from in eligible Google Search experiences.

What does this plugin do?

It makes it easy to add a Preferred Source button to your WordPress website. Visitors can click the button and proceed to Google to add your website as a preferred source.

Does this register my site with Google?

No. It builds the google.com/preferences/source link for your domain, matching the format Google documents for site owners. Whether your site can be selected depends on Google’s own criteria.

Does the plugin include the official Google button?

Yes. You can use the official Google Preferred Sources button design or choose from 40+ unique custom button styles.

Can I customize the button design?

Yes. Custom designs can be personalized with button text, site name, colors, background, border, font size, corner radius, Google icon visibility, and supporting text. A live preview shows the result before you publish.

Where can I display the button?

You can automatically display the button at the top, middle, or end of an article, below the post meta, near the table of contents, in the sidebar, above comments, or as a floating button. You can also place it manually using the shortcode, block, or widget.

How do I put it under the post meta, table of contents, or in the sidebar?

On the Display tab, tick one or more of: Below the post meta, Above the table of contents, Below the table of contents, Sidebar, below Share this article, End of the sidebar. The plugin finds the author line, TOC, and share box automatically. You do not need a CSS selector.

Can I show the button only on specific posts or pages?

Yes. You can control where the button appears by content type, enable or disable it for individual posts, and exclude specific posts, pages, or categories.

How do I show the button on every post?

Turn Show the button on your site on, choose All posts, tick Post (and any other types), pick at least one placement, then save.

How do I show the button on only some posts?

Choose Choose per post. Open a post, find the Preferred Source Button box in the editor sidebar, set Show on this post to Enable, then update.

How do I hide it on one post or page?

Under Exclude specific posts and pages, enter that item’s ID only. Example: 1000 hides post 1000 and nothing else. Find the ID in the editor URL (post=1000). You can also tick a category to hide every post in that category.

Can I control the button on mobile and desktop?

Yes. Automatic placements can be shown on mobile and desktop, desktop only, or mobile only. With Mobile and desktop you can set a different button name and supporting-text trigger for each.

Is there a shortcode?

Yes. Use [kmpsbg_preferred_source_button] anywhere shortcodes are supported.

Can I add supporting text around the button?

Yes. You can add optional supporting text above or below the button. Choose Always visible, On hover, or Info icon (i). Hover and icon use a square tooltip with an arrow and no border.

Can I use a floating Preferred Source button?

Yes. The plugin includes a floating button that can stay visible while users scroll. You can choose its corner position and configure it to appear immediately, after a specific scroll percentage, or after a time delay.

Does scroll or delay hide in-content buttons?

No. Scroll percentage and time delay apply only to the floating corner button.

Can I change the button’s destination domain?

Yes. By default it uses your site’s own domain. Override it in Settings if needed (for example on a staging or subdomain setup).

Does adding the button improve my Google rankings?

No. Using the plugin or being selected as a Preferred Source does not guarantee higher search rankings, increased traffic, or visibility in Google Search.

Is this plugin affiliated with Google?

No. KudoMetrics Preferred Source Button for Google is an independent WordPress plugin and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google. Google and related trademarks belong to their respective owners.

Does it work with caching plugins?

When you save settings, the plugin tries to clear page caches from WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache, LiteSpeed Cache, and similar plugins if they are installed.

What happens if I deactivate or uninstall the plugin?

Deactivating keeps your settings. Uninstalling deletes plugin settings, widget settings, and per-post enable/disable data.

I’ve been using this plugin on my WordPress site and have had a great experience with it. It’s easy to set up, offers plenty of customization options, and works as expected without any complicated configuration. I especially like being able to control where the button appears on my site. It’s simple, useful, and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Definitely worth trying!
